April 3, 2007 - Storms over Plano, Texas

by Sam Barricklow

Storms formed late in the afternoon in a highly unstable environment, with surface based CAPE values between 4000 to 5000 J/kg. Hail from pea size to golf ball size resulted, along with rotating wall clouds, a brief, weak tornado in southeastern Tarrant County, and a few reports of damaging straight line winds.

Looking northwest from the intersection of Belt Line Road and Plano Road in Richardson toward a wall cloud that was located in southwestern Plano, Texas. Fast upward motion into the base of the wall cloud could be seen, but no rotation was apparent.
From Abrams and I-635, looking north at the dissipating thunderstorm towers over Allen, Texas. a rotating wall cloud was reported under the storm at the time of the photo.
